Liquorice root as a natural superfood snack

Long before liquorice became a sweet in a bag, people simply chewed the root of the liquorice plant. These dried sticks, known in Dutch as zoethout, have a naturally sweet and slightly earthy taste that slowly comes out as you chew. That makes them a popular alternative to sweets for people who like to keep their hands and mouth busy, for example on a long drive or behind the desk.
