Pappadums for a proper curry night

No Indian meal feels complete without something crunchy on the side. Pappadums, also spelled papadums or poppadoms, are thin round crackers, traditionally made from lentil flour, that puff up and crisp in seconds when you heat them in a pan or microwave. The Patak's Papadum Naturel is the plain version, perfect for scooping up mango chutney, raita or the last bit of sauce from your plate.

Like a little more flavour? In our snack range you will also find the Patak's Pappadum Garlic, and for restaurants and takeaways there is a box of Patak's Pappadum Garlic 12x 100g. Want more crunchy sides? Browse the full other snacks category.

Building an Indian meal

A typical Indian dinner combines a curry, rice or bread, and a few side dishes. Curries are often built on a base of onion, garlic, ginger and a blend of ground spices such as cumin, coriander and turmeric. Garam masala, a warming spice mix, is usually added at the end. You can find these ingredients among our spices and spice mixes and seasonings.

Serving tips

  • Serve pappadums as a starter with chutney and a cool yoghurt dip.
  • Choose long-grain rice to soak up rich, saucy curries.
  • Offer something fresh, such as sliced cucumber or onion, to balance the heat.
