Stroopwafels, speculaas and Dutch classics

A stroopwafel is a thin waffle filled with caramel syrup, best enjoyed placed on top of a hot cup so the filling softens. The Daelmans Mini Caramel Stroopwafels are a popular choice to serve with coffee, and the Kanjers Mini Stroopwaffles are another handy option. Speculaas is a crunchy biscuit spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, traditionally eaten around Sinterklaas. Try the De Ruiter's Bakkerij Speculaas or the Lotus Biscoff Speculoos, a familiar sight on café saucers. Dutch café noir biscuits, with their coffee-flavoured icing, come from Van Delft and Verkade.
